JONATHAN GELNAR

JV WHITE COACH

AT UNION:

Coach Gelnar began coaching baseball at Union in 2013, coaching JV White.

BEFORE UNION:

Jonathan previously coached varsity football, wrestling, and baseball at Duncan High School.  He also helped coach the Oklahoma Travelers summer baseball team.

PLAYING DAYS:

Played high school baseball at Hobart High School, as a 4-year starter.  Later played for South Mountain Community College (Phoenix) and Redlands Community College (El Reno).

AWARDS:

Oklahoma Coaches Association (OCA) All State catcher.  Named to the Western Oklahoma Coaches Association All-Star Team.  Member of Academic State Championship Team (baseball and wrestling).

In football, he was an OCA All State running back, District MVP, Class All Star, and Farm Bureau Player of the Week.

BEST MEMORIES:

Being a 4-year starter with his high school baseball team.  Playing in the Bricktown Ballpark, in the 2007 All State game.  Hitting two home runs in an inning in a game in 2008.  Playing for the Oklahoma Travelers (2006-08), winning over 200 games in three years.

PERSONAL:

Jonathan married his wife, Macy, in June of 2013.  She is pursuing her teaching credentials, to graduate in May 2014.  His father, John Gelnar, played 8 years in the Majors (1963-71), for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Pilots, and the Milwaukee Brewers.  Jonathan and his wife have a dog named “Tulo.”
